Sony is launching its PlayStation Vue streaming TV service within the next two weeks in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The service will launch in these three cities shortly after invite-based tests there, and will roll out across the US by the end of this year. It will be available through Sony’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles, and later on iPad and other devices.

Sony announced PlayStation Vue last November, when it launched a beta version of the service with over 75 channels including FX, NBC, Bravo, the Food Network, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.

The company hasn’t yet announced pricing for its service, but if it’s going to go up against rivals like Sling, it’ll have to keep monthly fees around the $20 mark. However, unlike Sling, PlayStation Vue will offer the added benefit of recording shows to watch later.

The company is also keen on expanding PlayStation Vue to other countries, but didn’t detail timelines to do so. Ahead of those plans, Sony hopes to increase its PlayStation 4 user base once it begins selling the console in China next week, after months of delay due to pressure from local authorities.

With more viewers moving away from traditional cable services, the streaming TV market is heating up. It’ll be interesting to see how Sony plays this round.
