Sony to ship Vita with Netflix support in US and Europe on February 22

Sony to ship Vita with Netflix support in US and Europe on February 22

Sony announced that it will bring support for Netflix to the PlayStation Vita when it launches the handset gaming device in the US and Europe on February 22.

Speaking at a press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Kazuo Hirai, who is rumoured to be set to become Sony President later this year, confirmed that the device will ship with the Netflix from day one.

The device is already launched in Japan where it has reportedly slumped after a promising start. However Hirai described it as being “launched to great fanfare [and redefining] the standard for portable gaming”, and revealed that the company had sold 500,000 units.

Netflix has been actively boosting its profile online, and the service launched in the UK this week, as we revealed last week. It caused some controversy by requiring a Facebook ID for sign-up, however it later tweaked its sign-up process in response to criticism from Brits eager to use the service, which is priced at £5.99 per month.
