I shouldn’t be pleased to see any large structures lit up in flames, but it’s hard not to be mesmerized by this malfunctioning wind turbine on fire.
The video, posted on July 1 to YouTube, captures a broken windmill on fire in Tamil Nadu, India. According to the short video description, high voltage caused it to catch fire, and a technical glitch made the turbine run on high speed. The result is this oddly beautiful smoke helix continuously being spun for a solid minute or two.
So maybe the anti-windmill groups have won this time, but at least we have something hypnotizing to look at on a lazy afternoon. Hopefully there were no further damages than on the actual wind turbine itself.
