Social gifting app Wrapp adopts Braintree and Venmo Touch for one-tap mobile transactions

Social gifting app Wrapp adopts Braintree and Venmo Touch for one-tap mobile transactions

Online and mobile payments platform Braintree has announced today that social gifting app Wrapp is the latest firm to choose them as its payments provider.

It means that Wrapp is now available on Venmo Touch, a new service launched by Braintree last month that allows consumers to complete transactions with just one touch.

It works by storing the consumer’s credit card details whenever they complete a transaction using an app tied to the Braintree network. The user is then asked if they would like to “save the card with Venmo”, and if the user approves it, all other apps in the Braintree network will then offer an identical one touch payment method.

Wrapp, meanwhile, is a Swedish social gifting app maker co-founded by Andreas Ehn, a former Spotify CTO. It allows friends to send and receive both free and paid gifts cards on their smartphone or desktop browser. Although the gift cards are only for brands that have partnered with Wrapp, the app also allows Facebook friends to contribute towards presents that are being sent to anyone person.

It’s available in eight countries at the moment, with its most recent release in the UK including partnered brands such as online fashion and beauty retailer ASOS, gym and health club group Fitness First, language-learning software company Rosetta Stone and Pizza Express.

Hjamar Windladh, CEO and co-founder of Wrapp, revealed today that the service has been used by more than 1 million consumers in the last 15 months, totalling 8.3 million digital gift cards.

“By using Braintree to process payments, we can focus on growing and improving our social gifting service, knowing that the checkout process will always be consistent and super simple for our users,” he said.

Braintree released Venmo Touch as a private beta in January for some of its most notable clients such as HotelTonight and TaskRabbit. It follows plans, announced last November, to hire new staff and open a sales office in Australia during “early 2013”.

The company claims to be the fastest growing payment platform for online and mobile businesses and has raised at least $70 million to date. It accepts more than 130 currencies in over 30 countries, and offers businesses a secure payment gateway, recurring billing, and credit card storage, as well as an API.
