SOASTA acquires LogNormal, launches real-time mobile analytics service dubbed mPulse

SOASTA, which offers cloud testing products and services for consumer-facing Web and mobile apps, is today announced that it has acquired a company called LogNormal, which specializes website performance measurement based on “real” user behaviour.

LogNormal was co-founded by Buddy Brewer and Philip Tellis, two former Yahoo employees who made a name for themselves in the performance measurement industry for their creation of and contributions to Boomerang, an open-source “real user measurement” solution.

The acquisition of LogNormal, which was completed last month, is SOASTA’s first.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mountain View, California-based SOASTA is promptly putting the acquired technology and people to work, releasing a new data analysis product called mPulse, which lets customers surface information based on actual mobile user behaviour in real time.

mPulse captures traditional performance metrics such as bandwidth and site, page or native app load time but also a set of engagement metrics like bounce, exit and conversion rates. In addition, the service spits out mobile user metrics like user location, device type, carrier speed and application usage.

Says SOASTA CEO Tom Lounibos:

“We created mPulse because traditional solutions don’t provide the detailed, real-time analytics required to deliver the actionable intelligence that includes mobile user activity.

Technical professionals and business managers need a comprehensive solution to test, monitor and measure real user behavior to ensure customers get the most out of their app or site – whether it’s mobile, on the web, or both.”

SOASTA is providing a free version of mPulse when you register here.

Current SOASTA customers include Chegg, Gilt Groupe, Hallmark, Intuit, Microsoft and Netflix.
