Skype brings automatic dropped call recovery and emergency call redirection to the iPhone

Continuing to iterate its apps on both iPhone and iPad, Microsoft-owned Skype today pushed live version 4.5 of its iPhone app, adding automatic dropped call reconnection, toggles to opt-in or opt-out of marketing when registering and emergency call redirection.

This means that both the iPhone and iPad apps now feature the new “automatic call recovery for dropped calls,” as well as fixes that reorder conversations and the new marketing toggles. This comes after Skype for iPad received the update on February 4.

However, iPhone users will now be able to begin calling emergency numbers via the Skype app if they have it open, with Skype ensuring that such calls are directed to the native dialer. VoIP services have traditionally be restricted from making such calls, so this may be a welcome addition if you use the iPhone app regularly.

Skype on the iPad also now feature improved spacing, with the company making “minor changes” so that the app operates more efficiently on an iPad mini.
