Microsoft has announced updates for its Skype and Skype Qik apps including a new layout, video effects and support for 12 new languages.

The update brings a bubble-style layout to chat and adds support for custom emoji on Android.

It also includes a new speech to text function that will work with Android Auto, as well as the ability to view and change avatars in group chats.

On iOS, the update brings 12 new languages to the app – Turkish, Malay, Estonian, Hungarian, Hindi, Croatian, Slovak, Indonesian, Greek, Thai, Vietnamese and Catalan.

The Skype Qik update is for iOS, Android and Windows devices and it offers eight new video effects. You can switch between video effects as well as being able to layer and add multiple effects.
