Skype 2.5 for Android brings video-calling to more handsets, includes ads

Skype video calls have been available on Android since June, though just four handsets were enabled for the service. But with the roll-out of Android 2.1 back in August, this functionality was extended to most Android handsets.

Today, Skype has announced Skype 2.5 for Android, with video support added to an additional 14 Android handsets, bringing the total number of devices that support video-calling to 41, and Motorola now has its first look-in for Skype video-calling on Android, including the Motorola Photon, Droid 3, Bionic, Xoom and the Atrix. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 also now has support, as does the HTC Nexus One.

You can download the updated Skype Android app from the Android Market, where it will detail the entire range of handsets that now support video-calling.

Thenew Skype update also lets users switch between portrait and landscape mode during video calls, whilst it says it has improved support for bluetooth headsets and “included a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements, which should further boost the user experience of Skype for Android”.
