Skycure, the Israeli mobile security specialist that was responsible for outing a major defect with LinkedIn’s iOS app that enabled it to collect full meeting notes and details from user calendars, has secured $3 million in funding.
The early-stage financing round comes from Pitango Venture Capital, with the firm’s general partner Rona Segev-Gal joining Skycure’s board. A number of private investors also chipped in for the round.
Skycure was founded in May 2012 by two entrepreneurs, Yair Amit and Adi Sharabani, aiming to alter the way handheld devices are protected by introducing a mobile firewall that addresses emerging security threats sans compromising usability, privacy or battery life.
The startup’s patent-pending technology employs a dual-protection mechanism, which consists of a client-side firewall that resides on the device, combined with a server-side service that provides analysis.
Pitango’s Segev-Gal, explains their decision to invest:
“As the mobile era evolves, it becomes clearer that networks are no longer confined to physical locations, resulting in unique security challenges that are not solved by current solutions.”
The investment marks the first from Pitango 6, the VC firm’s most recently launched fund, and also the first outside financing for Skycure.
The startup is today presenting its solution at the second ‘International Homeland Security Conference’ in Tel-Aviv, where it plans to perform a live hacking demonstration.
