ShowYouLikeIt is a great way to keep up with the most popular music, books, movies and more according to the number of Facebook likes a particular item has received.
Additionally, signing up for a free account by connecting your Facebook account gives you a personalized and attractive page of all of your Facebook favourites.
ShowYouLikeIt’s public page displays the most popular items based on the Facebook members who have already connected their accounts to the site. The more people that join, the more data based on Facebook likes will be publicly available through the site.
There are several ways you can use the site. First of all, it’s an easy way to complete your ‘Facebook likes’ section in your profile, if you haven’t already. If you want to let your friends know what your favourite band is, what kind of fashion you’re into, and what kind of sports you like to play, you can quickly complete your profile with ShowYouLikeIt.
If you’ve already got your profile set up the way you want it, ShowYouLikeIt becomes your own personalized page of all of your favourite things online. You can post the link on your site, or anywhere else you want, using it to let anyone on the Web know all there is to know about your tastes.
ShowYouLikeIt also shows you which Facebook friends have similar tastes. Their profile pictures will appear on any given item when you open it up, and they will also be listed on your own personal profile.
When you first sign up, you can choose to make your profile public or private. Opting for a public profile, the site has the potential to become a social network unto itself, based on your Facebook likes. However, you can only actually follow your Facebook friends.
There is currently no way to view other people’s profiles unless you have the direct link to their page. This seems to defeat the purpose of public profiles. If I can already see my friends’ likes on Facebook, I’m probably not going to log in to an entirely different site to see the same information. This feature will only really come to life if member profiles can be viewed, regardless of whether you know them from Facebook or not.
Of course, ShowYouLikeIt’s data is limited only to the likes of users who have connected their accounts, but it can still be interesting to see how the information differs depending on various filters. You can filter the data by gender, age, and language, and as more people begin to use the site, it becomes a pretty interesting reflection of what Facebook users are in to.
The one thing ShowYouLikeIt definitely has going for it is an awesome UI. The site couldn’t be easier to navigate, and the slick design makes it a nice addition to your online profile, which you can set up, link and forget all about if you really want to, using it simply as a recommendation engine that you update by Liking things around the web.
