The other day I received a press release from the shopping search engine Milo.com.
It featured the following quote from the CEO:
“Price is an extremely important factor when it comes to making a purchase decision,” said Jack Abraham, Milo.com founder and CEO. “The sale prices found on Milo.com average 25 to 30 percent off the original retail price and, when used in conjunction with our product details and local availability information, give users everything they need to save big on great products that are locally available now. Unlike Google, we can tell you if a product is in-stock locally and unlike Amazon, we don’t ask people to wait – or pay – for shipping.”
Now press releases like these are a dime a dozen, so I decided to check it out.
The first thing that I did was to set up a phone call with Jack (I call him Jack). He assured me that I could use Milo to search for a product, find out where it is sold here in Charlottesville, see if it is in stock, buy it at the cheaper online price, and then apply the secret discount code for double savings. I agreed to post it if and only if I could verify it.
So this morning I went to Sears.com and pretended to buy a Kenmore Magic Blue™ Canister Vacuum, Blue item # 02024195000 Mfr.model # 24195. The regular price is $119.99, but on their website it is $95.99, or $24 less.
But there’s more! When I applied the promo code, it took another $5 off for $90.99. Then I entered my zip code and checked “pick up at store” so there would be no delivery charge.
But there’s even more! At Sears, if you have to wait more than 5 minutes to pick it up, you get a $5 store coupon. So I’m here to tell you that Milo can really save you real dollars once you get to know it.
Update: Here’s a cool infographic by Column Five Media on Milo’s blog.
P. S. Milo, I assume, is Jack’s dog, and is it a Jack Russell? I wish that it would wag its tail or shake its head or something.
