Shazam will let you see all the embarrassing songs your favorite musicians are Shazaming

Shazam will let you see all the embarrassing songs your favorite musicians are Shazaming

Ahead of Apple Music’s official launch tomorrow, Shazam announced that it is rolling out a new feature that lets fans see what their favorite musicians are Shazaming.

It’s akin to seeing their Google search histories, but for music. Can you imagine catching Taylor Swift Shazaming a John Mayer song? The possibilities.

In the previous version of Shazam, artist profile pages only highlighted their top tracks and videos. Now, you can see a stream of recently Shazamed songs, as well as their profile follower count.

Artists can also share the music they listen to straight to their fans’ home feeds – Facebook status style. Shazam says this allows fans to get a glimpse inside artists’ musical influences and discover content along with their followers.

The new feature is likely Shazam’s push against Apple Music Connect, a social feature for Apple’s own streaming service. It’s also similar to Spotify’s public playlist feature that lets fans listen to songs curated by other users, including verified musicians.

Today’s news comes after Shazam announced last week that it will be optimizing the service for Apple Music so you can listen to songs you’ve discovered via Shazam on your preferred streaming service.

At launch, Shazam has more than 30 partner artists, including Calvin Harris, Alicia Keys, Pitbull, One Direction, Fall Out Boy and Usher, with goals to add hundreds more musicians from around the world.

Additionally, the app will reveal a “Shazam Count” number on each song so you can see how many times a particular song was looked up.

Shazam already compiles lists of songs that are Shazamed most often by region, genre and overall, but the new figure should help you guesstimate how popular a song might become.

The update is rolling out today on iOS and Android.
