Samsung officially announces the Galaxy S3 Mini, 4″ screen, 1GHz processor and NFC

Well, we knew it was coming, but Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy S3’s little brother…the Galaxy S3 Mini.

The device is built in a similar style to that of its big brother, but aimed at those looking for a mid-end smartphone, with a mid-end budget.

With a 4.0-inch screen, it will certainly appeal to a much broader consumer base who perhaps were put-off by the S3’s cinema-screen-esque size. Its full dimensions are 121.55 x 63 x 9.85 mm, weighing in at 111.5 g.

“The Galaxy S3 introduced a new concept of smartphone that has proven hugely popular around the world,” says JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics. “We’re now delighted to bring its revolutionary design, intuitive usability and intelligence to the Galaxy S3 Mni in a more compact form. We continue to make every effort to provide extraordinary mobile experiences to meet a wide variety of user needs.”

Powered by Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), the pretty stylish-looking Mini shares a lot with the S3 in terms of design, with a curved frame and Super AMOLED display. It also has the S Beam feature which lets you share a 10MB music file in two seconds by tapping on another S Beam-enabled device (e.g. S3 or Galaxy Note II), even with a Wi-Fi or cellular signal.

The handset comes with a dual core 1GHz Chipset, a 5MP AF + LED flash camera (VGA front), 8/16GB ROM+ 8Gb RAM, microSD up to 32GB. It’s also NFC-enabled.

The phone will be available in early November.
