Expanding its merchandising and retail plans, Rovio has launched its bestselling (in Finland) Angry Birds soft drinks in Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Spain, with plans to bring the beverage to the UK in the “next few months.”
Rovio’s “Might Eagle” Peter Vesterbacka confirmed the company’s sales spread into four new markets to The Next Web at the BlackBerry 10 launch event (where he was announcing the release of Angry Birds: Star Wars on the platform), moving beyond its home country of Finland, where the soda brand is outselling Coke and Pepsi.
Vesterbacka had previously announced that the company would seek to launch in Australia and New Zealand at Finland’s Slush conference back in November 2012.
Moving forward, Rovio has its sights set on the UK, but will consider launching on a “market-by-market” basis.
“Right now, we are looking at the UK, so that should happen over the next few months. We want to find the right partners on the distribution side in various markets, so we will look to launch market by market,” said Vesterbacka, adding: “Sales in Russia are off to a really really good start, which highlights how well the Angry Birds brand works with different products.”
Angry Birds soda cans are currently available in four different flavours, with new bottled flavors set to launch in select markets soon.
