Roku taps Flingo for 70 new channels from TMZ, History Channel, Lifetime, CollegeHumor and more

Shortly after surpassing 700 channels, teaming up with Time Warner Cable and naming new hardware partners, Roku has announced a partnership with smart TV app publisher Flingo which will eventually bring 70 new channels from TMZ, History Channel, Lifetime, CollegeHumor and more to Roku’s platform.

Transworld, Warren Miller and College Humor’s content will be made immediately available, and additional Flingo apps will be launching on Roku devices “on a rolling basis over 3-4 months.”

In addition to these new channels, Flingo tells us that its second-screen technology, Samba and social features like check-ins, tweets, polls and quizzes will be involved in this deal. Update: Samba integration is not currently part of Flingo’s deal with Roku.

As we detailed earlier today, Roku says that, in all, its customers streamed an impressive 1 billion hours worth of entertainment in 2012.
