Revolut customers across Europe were unable to open the fintech’s app or pay with their cards on Tuesday morning, after a service disruption hit several of its features.
Outage tracker Downdetector logged more than 1,500 reports at that point, and users in the UK, France, Romania and Spain said they could not move money, while Irish broadcaster RTÉ also reported disruption for customers in Ireland.
Revolut confirmed the problem in a post from its support account on X.
“We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple features,” the company wrote.
It added that its engineers were working to restore full service as quickly as possible, and apologised to customers. Moreover, Revolut also said customers’ money and data were safe.
The outage extended beyond the app, as several customers said their cards were declined in shops, which is rare during a bank outage.
Others said they could not log in, send money or reach support through the chat. In Ireland, where Revolut is widely used, some customers were unable to pay by card.
Downdetector reports had passed 2,000 by 9am, and most of them (63%) were concerned about the app, 20% about transfers, and 8% about logging in.
At the same time, Revolut’s own system status page showed all services as operational.
Revolut says it has more than 80 million personal customers and over 800,000 business customers worldwide, including about 13 million in the UK. The company was valued at $115bn in its latest share sale and has applied for a US bank charter.
At the time of writing, Revolut had not said what caused the outage or when full service would return.
