NoWait, an iPad-based seating system for restaurants, has passed the 10 million diner milestone.

After the startup picked up $2 million in its first round of venture funding last August, the number of guests seated through its service grew 300 percent to over a million diners a month.

Restaurants use the app to input diners’ names and telephone numbers into an iPad. Customers then receive a text message when their table is ready. They can also visit a link to check their place in line.

Frankly, it’s nice to see a system like this arrive to replace those weird flashing pagers that restaurants have been using. The concept behind NoWait makes sense, and restaurants seem to agree.

The app is free for restaurants up to 200 parties a month. Premium services cost $59, $119 and $199 a month and include additional marketing and customization features.

As NoWait gains traction among restaurant owners, it’ll have a shot at taking on OpenTable and other reservation apps. NoWait is currently working on a consumer facing app. If the app lets you book your place in line before you arrive at the restaurant, it should be quite popular among diners.
