Redesigned BBC iPlayer lands on new devices, will finally debut on Xbox One later this year

The BBC has detailed a wider range of internet-connected TVs, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players that will soon be able to take advantage of the redesigned iPlayer interface first rolled-out across its desktop platform and mobile apps.

Announced in a blog post today, you can see the list of newly-supported devices below. However, if you were hoping for an update to your YouView, Virgin Media or BT boxes then you’re out of luck for now. The BBC said that these, and other devices, will hopefully be migrated across to the new design before the end of the year. Similarly, the new BBC iPlayer should be available on Microsoft’s Xbox One console before the end of the year too.

Rounding off the news is the impending closure of the BBC’s Big Screen version of the iPlayer, which the organisation said is used by 0.1 percent of all iPlayer users. It’s due to close in September.
