Reddit did 1.8 BILLION page views in the last 30 days, with 28m unique visitors

Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian just announced on Twitter that the website had 28 million unique visitors in the past month alone and racked up a total of 1.8 billion page views. That’s billion—with a ‘B’!

Reddit has seen steady growth over the past couple of years, overtaking Digg as the most popular social news sharing platform. The staggering numbers posted by Ohanian just now only serve to confirm that the website is almost unbelievably popular among the link-sharing masses online.

Reddit proudly showed off its impressive Google Analytics traffic data in July 2010 and hit 1 billion page views per month as recently as in February this year. The ‘funny’ community (or “subreddit”, in reddit parlance) was the first one to reach a million readers less than a week ago.

By contrast, its chief competitor Digg has been doing about 8.3 million unique visitors per month according to Google’s DoubleClick Ad Planner data (which pegs Reddit’s numbers at 24 million, making it a not-accurate-but-reasonable-correct estimation) and has been mostly in decline. Twitter, on the other hand, is going gangbusters, with over 100 million active users per month and over 400 million uniques.

If reddit’s popularity has gotten you interested in the social link-sharing website that could (and did), we have some early drafts of the its distinctive alien mascot and the company logo and a rundown of its history and community, as well as a guide to get you started. Have some fun while you are there!
