Radical.FM launches an iOS app to take on Spotify, Pandora with a ‘pay what you can’ fee

Radical.FM launches an iOS app to take on Spotify, Pandora with a ‘pay what you can’ fee

The online music streaming service Radical.FM has launched an iOS app, marking the company’s first foray into native app streaming. More importantly, it differentiates itself from others in the market by offering access to its 25 million song catalogue on a ‘pay what you can’ basis.

Also unlike some other rivals services like Spotify or Pandora, it also differentiates itself by using human-curated suggestions, rather than leaving it to be purely algorithm drive. Deezer also uses a similar approach.

The feature set certainly does try to be different, including things like ‘Custom Genres’, which allows a 30-second snippet of a track to be heard before adding it to a station. Once added to a custom station it will then play back the entire track in the selected order. Radical.FM’s iOS app also has an ‘Unblock’ feature which allows for previously ‘blocked’ tracks to be added back into the normal rotation.
