In a shocking turn of events, yesterday Twitter announced it’s shutting down Vine within the next few months. But it seems the dying micro-vlogging service’s fate might not be sealed just yet as Pornhub wants to lend a hand.
The porn giant has offered to buy out the soon-to-be-defunct service, promising to “restore Vine to its NSFW glory”, CNET reports.
In a letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Pornhub VP Corey Price laid out his plans for Vine:
We figure since Twitter has dropped (Vine) and is having significant layoffs, that you and your stakeholders could benefit from a cash infusion from the sale of Vine. Not to mention we would be saving Vine gems like ‘Damn Daniel,’ ‘Awkward Puppets‘ and many more.
Price further added that snippets of “porn in six seconds is more than enough time for most people to enjoy themselves.”
While Price’s condescending tone verges on straight-up mockery, his cheeky proposal does make sense to a certain extent.
Pornographic GIFs have been astonishingly popular on platforms like Tumblr and a number of adult industry insiders have voiced out their frustration with the blatant copyright violations that systematically take place on the website.
Assuming Price’s offer is not simply a case of kicking a dog when it’s down, Pornhub might have a real opportunity on its hands to offer a liable way for producers to promote and monetize content, while also catering to the x-rated needs of consumers.
With the right direction, short-format pornography could be ‘the new thing’ – and PornVine can be the platform to make this happen.
