There’s a poetic beauty to the Sunlight Foundation’s Politwoops: as politicians try to scrub their Twitter accounts free of any mistakes, the service doggedly unearths them, and finds growing trends among the gaffes. It’s been awesome since its inception in 2012 by the Open State Foundation, and it was a real bummer when Twitter decided to pull the API from the program to keep it from finding deleted tweets.
But now, it has revived! The Sunlight Foundation announced today that Politwoops is back in action in the US, just in time for the New Hampshire primary. Now you’ll be able to see when politicians try to delete brash messaging or mistaken comments about the political climate in the US, or when they make cringeworthy errors in tweeting. Right now Politwoops covers politicians in the Senate, House and presidential candidates, as well as governors and the D.C. mayor, but that will expand soon.
The program is also actively seeking feedback to make Politwoops even more useful for users, so if you have an idea for where all those deleted tweets should go, your voice can be heard.
In the meantime, now you can casually scroll through the deleted tweets of elected officials and presidential candidates just as 2016 begins to heat up. Enjoy, policy nerds!
