Periscope took over coverage of House sit-in over gun law reform after C-SPAN went dark

Periscope took over coverage of House sit-in over gun law reform after C-SPAN went dark

In force a vote on gun control, House Democrats staged a sit-in this morning. When C-SPAN cameras went dead, Periscope took over.

C-SPAN claims it has no control over the cameras in the House of Representatives, meaning government officials turned them off (likely to avoid scrutiny over gun laws).

Periscope, though — Periscope can’t be stopped. Representative Scott Peters of California started streaming what was going on. Periscope even has a dedicated hashtag, #NoBillNoBreak, for Peters and the ongoing struggle for tighter gun laws.

There are several streams already cached to Peters’ feed, and while I’m not sure how exciting a sit-in could really get, at least there’s an understanding of democratized video on the floor of the House.
