PayPal is hoping to tempt British citizens into adopting its online payment services with an upgraded Buyer Protection scheme.

In the past, the process has allowed users to dispute physical goods paid for with PayPal. After filing a claim through its Resolution Centre, PayPal would set up a communications channel between the buyer and the seller, before ultimately deciding on whether to refund the original payment.

Today, PayPal is increasing the remit of its Buyer Protection program to include services, digital goods, travel tickets and other intangible items. The UK is the first market to receive such benefits and the company is also extending the time to open a dispute from 45 to 180 days.

“People were telling us that they wanted more protection when buying things like travel tickets and digital downloads, so today’s changes will give them even greater reassurance when using PayPal,” Cameron McLean, PayPal’s UK managing director said.
