Payment provider Stripe exits beta in Australia, now open to all businesses

Payment provider Stripe exits beta in Australia, now open to all businesses

Stripe has been testing out its service in a closed beta in Australia for nearly a year now, but today the payments provider announced it was finally shaking off that beta tag and opening the doors to any businesses in the country that wish to use the service.

The move is its first official launch in the Asia-Pacific region and marks the fifth country in which Stripe now officially operates. It’s also running open and invite-only betas in 12 more countries. Stripe said today’s launch also includes support for international currencies, allowing users to charge their customers in their local currency and still receive Australian Dollars (AUD).

Pricing for the service Down Under is simple, 1.75 percent of the total amount plus 30 cents for Australian cards and 2.9 percent plus 30 cents for international and American Express cards, Stripe said. It added that volume pricing is negotiated individually for businesses that expect to process more than AUD$40,000 per month.
