Luxembourg’s second largest phone network turns Orange

As of today, Vox, a telecommunication services provider based in Luxembourg, becomes Orange. This means that Luxembourg has its first multinational telecommunication services provider in direct competition to the first mobile services provider LUXGSM (P&T) and his competitor Tango (Tele2), both native Luxembourgish companies.

Vox was founded in 2004, hyping the market with free SIM-Cards and contracts without the usual base charges. Many customers switched to Vox, and the provider very soon started fixed telephone and internet business. Vox was the first provider selling iPhone’s in Luxembourg.

Orange was created in 1994 and acquired by France Télécom in August 2000. As a global mobile network operator, there are of course some benefits for Orange customers, enlisted below.

A few days ago, Vox announced its rebranding to Orange, starting today. All contracts remain the same, and Prepaid Cards will be switched to the corresponding new Orange Prepaid Cards.

A few extras have been added though: iPhone customers for example now get 75 free minutes for calls to EU countries, which is something pretty cool! Even Prepaid customers get a lot of free minutes, and calls to most EU countries are much cheaper than they used to be. In comparison to the competitors in Luxembourg, the prices are almost the same for contracts and Prepaid services, with some advantages (as the described free minutes to EU countries) for Orange customers.

Who can profit of the Orange Luxembourg service? Many, as there are a lot of people from France or Belgium working in Luxembourg. As Orange exists in France, Belgium and Luxembourg, they will probably save some money!
