OpenAI’s announcement artwork for GPT-6 Sol and Luna.
OpenAI is bringing its frontier models and its Codex coding agent to Google Cloud, the two companies said on Wednesday. GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out now in private preview in Google Cloud’s Model Garden, Google wrote. Select enterprise customers get them first. OpenAI plans general availability in the coming weeks, it said in a blog post.
The deal puts OpenAI’s models on all three of the biggest US cloud providers. Amazon Web Services began hosting them in April, after Microsoft’s exclusive licence ended. OpenAI added its agents to Amazon Bedrock last month.
Google now calls itself the only hyperscale cloud provider that offers all three leading closed models. Its platform already offers Anthropic’s Claude next to its own Gemini.
“This partnership is an important step in making our most capable models and Codex available where customers are already building,” Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president and co-founder, said in the announcement.
How customers will buy it
Customers will buy the models through Google Cloud Marketplace. They can pay with their existing Google Cloud spending commitments. All usage appears on one Google Cloud invoice, Google said.
Google said customer prompts and outputs stay inside the customer’s data perimeter, and that it never uses them to train models. The OpenAI models run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure. Developers can already connect Codex to Google’s platform, and the models are coming soon to Google Antigravity and the Gemini Agent.
“We are focused on giving customers a broad selection of models, including those from OpenAI, so they can choose the right model for any given job,” Thomas Kurian, chief executive of Google Cloud, said in the announcement.
Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner, OpenAI said.
Rivals on the same shelf
Google and OpenAI compete in AI models and in search. Google released Gemini 4 Argon to paying users this month.
Mike Leone, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, told Axios the deal shows Google’s confidence.
“Gemini now has to win those customers with OpenAI sitting right next to it,” Leone told Axios.
Cloud providers usually take a cut of model sales on their platforms, Krystal Hu reported for Reuters. Anthropic made 47% of its 2025 revenue through Amazon’s and Google’s cloud platforms, according to its IPO filing, Reuters reported.
Google’s cloud revenue growth accelerated to about 82% in the second quarter, Jordan Novet reported for CNBC. Amazon and Microsoft reported cloud growth of 37% and 42%. All three report quarterly results next week.
