Udemy releases an iPad app, taking its 5,000-course online learning platform mobile

With over 5,000 courses available, Udemy has released an iPad app, bringing its online learning marketplace into the mobile space.

Udemy boasts that it is the largest marketplace of its kind, with more than 400,000 users. The app, which includes offline viewing, provides access to both free and paid courses, including classes from noteworthy instructors such as Lean Startup’s Eric Ries and entrepreneur Steve Blank.

“The future of learning is mobile and the iPad is the perfect lifelong learning device,” Eren Bali, CEO and co-founder of Udemy, said in a statement. “Udemy students are extremely active and want access to learning regardless of time or location. The app builds on Udemy’s promise of connecting students with the world’s experts by turning idle time into a learning opportunity.”

Udemy notes that its backers include “the people behind YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Groupon and Yelp.”
