OnePlus ‘One’ smartphone to offer silk, sandstone, denim, bamboo and kevlar ‘StyleSwap’ covers

OnePlus ‘One’ smartphone to offer silk, sandstone, denim, bamboo and kevlar ‘StyleSwap’ covers

Drawing inspiration from Motorola and the Moto X, OnePlus today revealed some of the customization options for its upcoming ‘One’ smartphone.

The company said it will be offering ‘StyleSwap’ covers that add new colors and textures to the handset. Denim, bamboo, kevlar, silk and sandstone have all been confirmed, although the latter two won’t be made from their respective materials. That makes sense, given that silk isn’t particularly durable and sandstone would likely scratch everything else in your pocket.

It’s not clear exactly what OnePlus will be using in their stead, but nevertheless all of these materials are intriguing. While Motorola offered a bamboo option for the Moto X, a smartphone case made from denim and kevlar is pretty rare.

“The designs are elegant and attractive, but still durable and strong. No matter how often you like to change the look of your phone, there will always be a cover that will fit the mood,” One Plus founder and chief executive Pete Lau said. “We want you to be able to adapt your phone as often as you like, and to any situation that you may find yourself in.”

While the look of the handset itself is still unknown, OnePlus has started dripfeeding a few new details about the ‘One’. It offers a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a 3,100 mAh non-removable battery and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera; The handset is due in the first half of 2014, so it should only be a few months before we know more about the device.
