Voice control software specialist Nuance has partnered with Kenwood to bring its voice control capabilities to certain in-car entertainment systems in its range. The news, announced today, marks one of the first times that Nuance’s Dragon Drive voice control system,  has made it into an in-car device.

Users of Kenwood’s Excelon DNN990HD and DNN9230DAB (aimed at North America and Europe respectively) infotainment systems will be able to control navigation, music, calendar access, RSS newsfeeds, message dictation and other content simply by speaking.

Composing emails or social media updates by voice while driving should therefore be a piece of cake, and incoming messages can be read aloud thanks to Dragon’s text-to-speech engine. Users can also access weather updates and their calendar or store and share their trip log, route, and photos taken during travel using the Route Collector feature.
