At Nokia World in Abu Dhabi today, Nokia rolled out three new apps for its Lumia devices: Nokia Storyteller, Nokia Video Director, and Nokia Beamer. All three feature integration with Nokia’s HERE Maps and let users “capture, share, and re-live memories like never before.”
Nokia Storyteller introduces a new way to curate and relive images and videos as a story on a map, by automatically integrating your snaps and clips from your phone with HERE location information. In other words, this one is for travelers: whether you’re making a day trip or attempting to conquer a few countries in a summer, Nokia hopes you’ll use its latest creation to tell your story in a “chronological picture journey on a map.”
Nokia Video Director, which will be available for both Lumia smartphones and the Lumia 2520 running Windows RT 8.1, allows users to transfer videos from their smartphone to their tablet. It also features simplified editing tools to “create and share self-styled short films in minutes.”
Nokia Beamer lets you project your phone screen to any HTML5 enabled screen. The content you want to show shouldn’t matter: the app will work with documents, maps, location details, or even the camera viewfinder.
“We’ve collaborated closely with Microsoft and top developers from around the world to deliver unique app experiences, extending the boundaries of innovation for our ecosystem,” Bryan Biniak, Nokia’s Vice President and General Manager of Developer Experience, said in a statement. “With the new Lumia and Asha devices, Nokia empowers developers to leverage our latest tools and investments to deliver ground-breaking app experiences that delight consumers and drive increased revenue opportunities.”
Hardware aside, Nokia’s steady stream of new apps for its Lumia products is a constant reminder that it is the way to go when you’re considering buying a Windows Phone. Furthermore, Nokia Video Director shows exactly why Microsoft is acquiring its mobile division: synergy between smartphones and tablets has huge potential.
