3DS owners rejoice: During the latest Nintendo Direct, the company announced it is bringing the Super Nintendo to your handheld device.
Well, for some of you, anyway. The update will only arrive for owners of the New 3DS and New 3DS XL.
The best part? The games are arriving very soon. Starting today, New 3DS owners in the UScan download ‘Pilotwings,’ ‘Super Mario World’ and ‘F-Zero.’ These will be followed up by at least 6 more games in the next several weeks.

Those in Europe have a bit of a different schedule.
- March 3: ‘Super Mario World’ and’Earthbound’
- March 10: ‘The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past’ and ‘Super Metroid’
- March 17: ‘F-Zero’ and ‘Super Mario Kart’
- March 24: ‘Donkey Kong Country’ and ‘Donkey Kong Country 2’
The company says these games will include special 3DS-specific enhancements, as well as a ‘Perfect Pixel’ setting to play games at their native resolution.
That said, there’s no word on whether your console SNES purchases will transfer over to your mobile devices, though it seems unlikely without an explicit mention. We’re contacting Nintendo for more information, and will update this post if we hear back.
Update 6:28 PM EST: Sorry folks, it seems you can’t transfer your console SNES purchases to your 3DS.
