It’s not the first time Nike tried to make its Nike Mag sneakers from “Back to The Future” real, but until today, none of its iterations have ever been able to self-lace.
Nike promised to send Michael J. Fox, the actor who played Marty McFly in the 1985 film, an auto-lacing pair of sneakers today in honor of the date McFly arrived to the future.
In a tweet, Fox models the sneaker which… sounds kind of squeaky.

Earlier today, Fox tweeted a letter from Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield about the iconic kicks. A spokesman for Nike says only one pair of the Nike Mag would be in New York City today with Fox, so fans will have to wait until at least 2016 to see it on the market.

Once on sale, proceeds will go to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which is dedicated to finding treatments for Parkinson’s Disease. “We hope that the combined effort will raise even more than the $9.4 million collected in 2011 and contribute in some way to eliminating Parkinson’s Disease in our lifetime,” Hatfield wrote.
