NFB for iPad: A beautiful app featuring over 2000 Canadian films

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) offers thousands of videos online for free including movies, documentaries and animations — all 100 percent Canadian.

NFB Films for iPad, brings users an elegant app to browse and watch videos produced from the the Great White North, coupled with an option to pre-load films for offline viewing. And with the release of iOS 4.3, you can now throw the videos (from the app) over to your Apple TV using its new AirPlay feature. Cool eh?

Within the app, a history of Canadian films is sorted by categories such as arts, new releases, kids and hot topics. The app is jam-packed full of great content like the Oscar-winning animated short “Ryan”, a film from Chris Landreth based on the life of the influential animator Ryan Larkin.

The videos can additionally be searched by title, bookmarked in favourites or shared via email. NFB’s app has a “watch later” feature that pre-loads the films for offline use but for whatever reason, the watch-it-later option limits users to a 48 hours time frame.

The Canadian producer and distributor offers an iPhone and iPad app for free which can both display the content in either English or French.
