Netflix launches in the Netherlands, pricing its service at €7.99 per month

Film and video streaming service Netflix has touched down in the Netherlands — the home of The Next Web — today, where it is offering its service to users for €7.99 per month. Readers in the country can visit www.netflix.nl to get started.

The launch comes good on an announcement Netflix made back in June, and it brings an array of popular programming to the European country, such as: House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Arrested Development and Derek, the new comedy from Ricky Gervais.

There’s also plenty of homemade Dutch content, including: Alles is Liefde, All Stars 2: Old Stars, De Heineken Ontvoering, Gooische Vrouwen and Sonny Boy.

Content is, as ever, available to steam across a range of devices, which includes the PlayStation S3, Nintendo Wii, Xbox, PC, Mac, as well as mobile and tablet devices.

Reed Hastings, co-founder and chief executive officer of Netflix, said of the launch:

We’re proud to bring the future of television to the Netherlands. The Dutch have incredible broadband, but until today have not been able to take full advantage of their fast connections. Now people in the Netherlands can subscribe to Netflix and instantly watch great TV shows and movies anywhere, anytime, for one low monthly price.

The expansion into Netherlands marks Netflix’s continued progress in launching in more European countries. Last October, it jumped into Norway, Finland, Sweden and Denmark, while promising that launches in other countries nearby would follow.
