Nest has begun selling its Protect smoke alarm again, after the device was taken off the market for two months following safety concerns raised in April.
Protect will now be available for $99 in the US (or £89 in the UK), a reduction on the original $119 price, but it does not include the feature that lets users disable the alarm with a wave, which was the source of the original concern. A Nest spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company is “still looking into a solution” for it.
“We’re very pleased that Nest Protect is once again available to customers. And now, the price is $99 to make it accessible to as many people as possible,” Nest’s Doug Sweeny wrote in a blog post.
