Neelie Kroes, whose term as European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda ended last month, is taking up a new role as the Netherlands Special Envoy for Startups. The eighteen month assignment will focus on strengthening the international position of startups in the Netherlands and persuading foreign startups to set up there.
Kroes says of her new role: “I am looking forward to further strengthening the Dutch startup-brand with the help of startups from around the world. Startups represent the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that knows no boundaries, nor waits for what lies ahead.”
As Special Envoy, Kroes will also lead Startup Delta, an initiative launching early next year to bring government bodies, knowledge institutes, startups, financiers and businesses together with startup hubs in the Netherlands and beyond.
