MTV is launching an app on the Xbox 360 today, giving fans easier access to Catfish, Teen Wolf and some of the channel’s other exclusive TV shows.

As with almost every other media-related app on the Xbox 360, MTV’s dedicated service requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Variety reports that console owners will also need an existing account with a specific pay-TV partner to get anything other than the most recent episode of each show.

To make matters worse, the last five episodes to be broadcast on MTV are reportedly only available to Viacom’s ‘TV Everywhere’ partner providers: DirecTV, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse, Cablevision, Bright House Networks, Suddenlink, RCN and Hawaiian Telecom. We’ve reached out to MTV to clarify the situation.

The MTV app will also offer viewers some additional content from MTV News, the Video Music Awards and Web exclusives created by MTV Other. Regardless, it seems that MTV’s most precious content will only be available to a very small subset of Xbox 360 owners, which is a shame given the platform’s popularity with the channel’s target audience.
