Motorola will give purchasers of new DROIDs $100 credit if their old device can’t upgrade to Jelly Bean

Motorola today announced that it will give a $100 credit towards the new DROID devices that it is introducing today for any users whose 2011 Motorola devices can’t be upgraded to Android Jelly Bean.

The attempt will be made to upgrade all of its existing handsets to Jelly Bean, but the experience, said Motorola’s Dennis Woodside, may be ‘too compromised’ to work correctly. hence the credit towards a new device.

This is part of Motorola’s new ‘moving forward’ initiative that is slowing down device releases and moving them onto the latest versions of Android. The DROID RAZR HD, introduced today, doesn’t come with Jelly Bean, the latest version of the Android OS, but it at least has Ice Cream Sandwich.

No details have been revealed about how they will fulfill the credit plan.
