Microsoft has updated its Next Lock Screen app for Android with support for PIN and pattern-based locking.
In addition, accidental unlocking by pressing the home button has now been addressed. The app is now available in Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin), and provides improved battery usage and performance.
The business-focused lock screen replacement is a product of Microsoft Garage, an initiative that encourages the company’s employees to experiment an build innovative apps. The app update is a result of developers following user feedback, and is a sign that Microsoft is keen on building software for platforms beyond its own.
General manager Lawrence Ripsher said that his team is “investing in platform capabilities to develop contextual awareness and notification ‘smarts’ which will surface in the Next Lock Screen.”
