Microsoft announces Xbox One sales more than doubled in June following price drop to $399

Microsoft announces Xbox One sales more than doubled in June following price drop to $399

The Xbox One has had it tough since launch. While Microsoft lead the console wars with the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 4 has been outselling the Xbox One. But good news out of Redmond, the June sales of the console have more than doubled the May numbers.

According to Xbox Wire, an internal Xbox blog, the uptick in sales numbers probably has something to do with the new Kinect-free $399 version of the console and games that were announced at E3. That uptick in sales is based on sold-through numbers during the retail calendar.

What Xbox Wire doesn’t reveal is actual numbers of consoles sold. More than double sounds great unless the baseline number is incredibly low. In February, Microsoft sold 258,000 units. In April it sold 115,000  units. So there’s a good chance the company might have sold anywhere between 200,000 to 500,000 units in June.

Maybe.
