At today’s Microsoft cloud event, Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise Scott Guthrie introduced two new services to Azure.
The first is the new G family virtual machines which offer customers up to 32 Intel CPU cores, 450 GB of RAM and 6.5TB of local SSD storage. According to Guthrie, these machines offer twice the memory of anything offered by Amazon’s AWS service.
The company also introduced a new premium storage service for its customers with each virtual machine getting up to 32 TB of storage with a read latency of less than 1ms.
Guthrie says that these two new features will allow customers to offload traditional CPU hungry processes to the cloud.
