Microsoft has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire InCycle Software’s release management solution business, called InRelease. The move would allow the Redmond-based company add Release Management capabilities to its application lifecycle management (ALM) services and DevOps solutions currently powered by Microsoft Visual Studio and its Team Foundation Server.
S. Somasegar, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of the company’s Developer Division, says that InRelease’s continuous delivery solution will “automate the development-to-production release process from Visual Studio Team Foundation Server” that should help deliver applications in a faster and simpler fashion.
Under this agreement, Microsoft will be acquiring the InRelease business unit. InCycle Software will continue to operate as a separate entity focused on ALM consulting. It’s noteworthy that InCycle is also a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner.
InCycle is one of the market leaders when it comes to ALM services, along with release management solutions, which helps developers oversee production of an app from start to finish, and is specifically geared towards .NET websites. With the acquisition of InRelease, Microsoft appears to have enhanced its developer offerings to hopefully build more apps for its digital properties.
Today’s agreement comes the same day Microsoft’s Technical Fellow Brian Harry, who also works as a Product Unit Manager for Team Foundation Server, announced at EdTech the upcoming release of Visual Studio 2013 and Team Foundation Server 2013.
It will be interesting to see what Microsoft will do with InRelease when it holds its Build conference in San Francisco later this month.
