Meet SmartRecruiters, a company that is trying to end unemployment

Ask anyone who has run a company, or even a team, what the hardest part of their job was, and a good percent will tell you that it was hiring. There are open jobs, and viable candidates, but connecting the two is often extremely hard; how to do you slot people, or find the right person?

While this is an issue that is ever-enduring, what’s sad about the fact is that right now there are millions of people in desperate need of a job; businesses, as well, need people. But the unemployment rate remains high, given the inefficiencies of finding the right people for a fitting job.

According to SmartRecruiters, some 12.7 million people currently need a job in the United States. There are 3.5 million open jobs, the filling of which would drop the unemployment rate a fat 3%.

SmartRecruiters is a play on making the process of finding the right person more efficient, and less painful. The service lets people looking to hire manage all their applicants, by connecting all their efforts into a single hub. Post to anywhere (Craigslist, Monster, etc), and keep all the results in one bucket. Social is also included, helping to bring recruiting up to the bar of the modern Web.

The company, along with Indeed, Glassdoor and others, has put together the ‘Got Jobs’ campaign, which has the goal of ‘putting America back to work’ by promoting people who are currently hiring; encouragement to perhaps help them get through process of finding a new employee. I like the idea. Anything that can be done to get people into jobs that fit is worth doing.

SmartRecruiters is actually a free service; the company charges for add-ons like background checks. The company launched last March, and has racked up 13,000 businesses thus far. The economy is weak, so hire if you can. If you do, SmartRecruiters will call you a hero. Here’s how it works:
