Search for “tattoo” on a site like Dafont and the odds are you wont find the most elegant of typefaces. Especially when it comes to edgy script designs, there are a lot of interesting experiments (and god awful mistakes) out there, and this is why so very few of these faces are actually worth keeping in your repertoire.
Keepsake, a typeface recently released by Aerotype, on the other hand, stands out as something you could actually use. It’s an impressive tattoo-inspired script face with five members (Regular, Open, Fill, Drop & Dropshadow) that combine with highly varied results.
Designer Stephen Miggas explains that “Keepsake has evolved considerably over the past few years as I tried to balance the formality of classic penmanship with the edgy look and feel of a script one might find in a tattoo studio.”

More than anything else, though, it feels surprisingly solid. It’s still highly unique and must be used sparingly, but the name Keepsake does it justice. It’s worth keeping around.
