Man tries to sell WP7 handset running super secret OS build

Man tries to sell WP7 handset running super secret OS build

Well, it had to happen eventually. Someone is now, on a Slovakian Facebook page, trying to sell an HTC HD7 running not Windows Phone Mango, but Tango, the build that is to come after.

We’ve been discussing Tango as news has trickled out, but on the whole Tango has been wrapped pretty tight. And with good reason, Microsoft is determined to keep Mango as the sole focus of WP7 PR right now.

Tango, as we are slowly beginning to understand, is likely to be a low-cost version of Windows Phone that Nokia can use to sell cheap handsets around the world, in markets that might not be able to support a full-priced smartphone.

Now, the man’s offer is very interesting, check it out:

“HTC HD7 16GB (T9292 Schubert) for sale. You can select from three builds of Windows Phone – 7.0.7392, 7.10.7720 (Mango), 7.10.8200 (“Tango”). The first two are stable and functional build, third is dev build (not stable and to continue with official builds you have to flash it using RUUs). Price starts at 150€, you can contact me on my mail which I have on the forums, only through mail, highest price wins, delivery is not included in the price (only express delivery, not post office). In mail, write down which version of the OS you want, RUUs are not included. All accessories, slovak distribution, arrived today :)”

The seller could be faking the whole thing, but since a screenshot has leaked before, showing Tango, and the sale page has a shot of a Windows Phone handset running build 8200, which is supposed to be Tango, this is all somewhat possible.

We caution you about coughing up any cash for the offer, but we are keeping an eye on the situation. Perhaps the owner will install Tango, then get drunk and leave the handset at a bar. No, that is too much to hope for.
