Sometimes a game is just so good it can seem all but impossible to put the controller down. Even for, well, non-gaming activities.
That’s exactly what happened to a 28-year-old Siberian man according to state news service slash propaganda machine, Russia Today (RT).
The man, whose name hasn’t been released, downloaded the game and went on a three-week binge that cost him his job, his wife and even led to deteriorating health. If Hunter S. Thompson was still with us — and he wrote about gaming — this man would have, undoubtedly, inspired at least a novella.
According to a statement by the man:
If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it. I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.
Been there, buddy.
He’s seeking 500,000 roubles ($7,000 USD) in compensation for his misfortune.
The lawsuit will set new precedent in Russia, although similar cases have been tried around the world in recent years. In 2010, for example, a US Federal Court heard a case from Craig Smallwood, who demanded demanded damages after becoming addicted to ‘Lineage II.’
Playing Fallout 4, it seems, might just be the world’s most dangerous pastime.
