Rumours of unprecedented Apple discounts for Black Friday have been floating around the web all week, specifically after Boy Genius Report posted a story claiming to have a copy of a leaked flyer for a Nov 27th sale. 
The possibly-fake flyer reads that Apple stores will be offering a 25% discount off Macs and 30% off iPods, all limited to selected models.
The flyer boasted the following:
30% off selected iPods
25% off< all> Macs
15% off all accessories, Apple hardware & software
Most Macfans are skeptical of the legitimacy.
Tuaw declared Shenanigans on the flyer and suggests that the flyer is a fraud. “There is no flipping way this is going to happen” said Steven Sade.
I’d have to agree with Tuaw that the claims are highly unlikely although given the “back to school” discount we saw earlier this year one might wonder if Apple will continue on with the trend. Obviously Apple isn’t hurting for traffic in-store during the biggest shopping weekend of the year and Apple historically hasn’t done much wavering on price points.
Black Friday 2008 we saw Apple direct retail employees to reduce prices to match competitors advertised low prices on Macs. I’ve heard no reports of the same thing going down this year and big box retailers like BestBuy have limited discounts on Macs this time around.
Last year BestBuy also ran a 4 day sale offering $100 -$150 off the latest Macs including the Macbook Pro, notebooks, iMacs, Air and Mini.
BestBuy does have a price match guarantee excluding Thanksgiving day through until the Saturday after.
