Looks like Yahoo’s About to Have a Massive Clean Up

There’s a screenshot floating round twitter, the one below. Assuming it is what it looks like, a screenshot from an online event that we weren’t invited to (possibly press, maybe internal), indicating a massive clean up from Yahoo.

The screenshot was posted by Yahoo-acquired MyBlogLog co-founder Eric Marcoullier – now co-founder of OneTrueFan.

It shows the effective closure of Delicious, mybloglog and more. Or possibly, rather than conversion, “transformation” into Yahoo branded products not unlike Yahoo Finance, Mail etc.  One product that’s missing from the screenshot if Flickr, probably Yahoo’s most popular product. Could it be Yahoo doesn’t have the guts to convert that into its own branded product? Or are they just not closing it down?

Unfortunately we don’t currently know much more but you can rest assured that we’ll bring it to you as soon as it’s out there. TechCrunch is also discussing what the screenshot could possibly mean.

If true, it’s hardly a surprise. Yahoo just fired 4% of its workforce, 600 jobs.

In an announcement yesterday CEO Carol Bartz had this to say:

“Today’s personnel changes are part of our ongoing strategy to best position Yahoo for revenue growth and margin expansion and to support our strategy to deliver differentiated products to the marketplace. We’ll continue to hire on a global basis to support our key priorities,”

Yahoo is aiming to streamline operations and cut costs. The company wants to focus on it’s core web properties and display advertising.

Update 1:

According to a statement obtained from Search Engine Land, Yahoo has confirmed that Yahoo Buzz will be shut down along with the Traffic APIs. Delicious seems also very likely to shut down too.

This is the statement:
Part of our organizational streamlining involves cutting our investment in underperforming or off-strategy products to put better focus on our core strengths and fund new innovation in the next year and beyond. We continuously evaluate and prioritize our portfolio of products and services, and do plan to shut down some products in the coming months such as Yahoo! Buzz, our Traffic APIs, and others. We will communicate specific plans when appropriate.

So what do you to if Delicious closes down? You go to Pinboard.in, Google Bookmarks or Historious, that’s what you do. Or you can put a bit of effort into saving delicious.
