Chinese messaging service WeChat snagged football star Lionel Messi to front its advertisements, but now its rival Japanese chat app LINE has scored a partnership with his club, FC Barcelona — and another club Real Madrid — giving fans another way to get updates more directly.
LINE announced today that it has signed collaborations with these two highly-popular football clubs as it seeks to accelerate its growth into the European and South American markets while increasing its number of overseas users. In its latest earnings, one of the countries LINE mentioned that has been posting high growth was Spain: the home of both football clubs.
To get FC Barcelona and Real Madrid to “text” you on LINE, just add the club’s official account as a friend. Besides receiving flash reports on latest news and upcoming events, you will also get to download free LINE stickers featuring the FC Barcelona and Real Madrid team on their separate accounts. LINE will soon launch additional paid stickers featuring popular players of both clubs as well.
